One of the best things about working at Randall Branding is building relationships with great people. We love it when our clients share their world with us. And in the interest of returning the favor, we’ll be sharing parts of our weird and wonderful world with you here.

Six things you may not know about Kate Fallon, our Account Executive, Research Specialist and Strategic Planner.

1. Skiing is my favorite activity. I started skiing at age three in Telluride, Colorado and have been at it ever since. As president of my high school’s Alpine Club, it used to be a goal of mine to spend a year as a liftie at a ski resort in Colorado. But, I’m even happier to be spending my time in advertising.

2. I LOVE animals. While a big fan of domesticated pets, like dogs and cats (I have a black lab named Boomer and a cat name Kitty), my favorite animal is a Kinkajou. It’s this cute little monkey-like creature with a really long tail and really big, awesome eyes.

3. I really enjoy playing music. I played violin for six years and have learned (to varying degrees) how to play piano, guitar and the bagpipes. However, my favorite way to make music is singing. I was in choir for six years, travelling to Nashville and around the state of Illinois for different competitions before I went to college.

4. As a result of my love of music, I have grown to be enthralled with the performing arts and participated in a few different plays and musicals in my area. I love musicals. You can most likely hear me humming the melody to a show tune at any given moment.

5. In high school, I worked at a specialty foods store and catering company. We were on Oprah’s Favorite Things list for our Deeply Fudgy Brownies and the company has a ton of other great items on our menu. Because of this experience, I am a big foodie and take so much enjoyment out of trying a new restaurant. I want to open my own restaurant some day, but for now am subsisting on delicious sandwiches, steaks and…my favorite food…dill pickles.

6. My family is from the Chicago area and my parents are my biggest inspirations. They both work full-time, but have been able to give my younger sister and I such a loving and supportive life. We’re especially close with our neighbors and one of my favorite memories is of my mom making delicious chili and buffalo wings for football games, and sitting around with all of our neighbors talking about life. As a Midwesterner, Chicago Bears football, mom’s chili and family friends were an integral part of growing up, and I hope to always bring the kind and hardworking Midwestern work method into my professional life.

1. Born and raised in Texas (actually a stone’s throw from where the Cowboys played). But most of my time was in Amarillo – 16 hours from the Gulf of Mexico and even farther from the oceans. I experienced my first bite of crab cake in VA, and now I’m totally hooked on any well prepared crab dish.. I rarely eat the Texas beef I was raised on.

2. By coincidence, I lived in Randall County for more than 13 years and graduated from Randall High School – so maybe Jesse’s family has some relatives who relocated to Texas 200+ years ago?

3. I met my husband at the 1999 Strawberry Hill horse races . Many in RVA can boast that they attended Strawberry Hill and never saw a horse race. I did see a few horses race, but people watching was the best spectator sport at track.

4. I danced for the Lone Star Ballet, a regional dance company.  Because I was my full height of 5’11” at 14, I typically danced with the university dancers vs. students my age. This drove my desire to try and be as good as the adult dancers. Our director, the late Neil Hess, inspired all of his dancers to appreciate the beauty, elegance and importance of all fine arts that I carry to this day.

5. Yearbooks are what moved me to Virginia. While working as marketing director for the Texas Tech yearbook, I was recruited into sales/account mgt. and moved half way across the country. My first visit to VA was Oct. ’98 and I was astounded by the range of colors in the fall foliage. Driving down a winding road during my travels made me feel like I was in a car commercial with the leaves flying behind me. At that moment I knew Virginia was my new home. I’m a proud Texan by birth, but a Virginian by choice.

6. I am serving my penance to my former yearbook students, advisors and publishers. I’m a volunteer creating and editing my children’s elementary yearbook for the past 2 years. Our son and daughter enjoy looking at all of their yearbooks often and remembering small details unique to that year of school.

1. I’ve been doing improv comedy since middle school and have performed at a number of festivals around the country. In 2009, I co-founded the Richmond Comedy Coalition and in 2013 I was selected as one of Richmond’s “Top 40 Under 40” after the opening of our own permanent space, the Coalition Theater.

2. If you think you see my face on TV from time to time, you’re not crazy (or maybe you are…who knows), but every once in awhile I book a TV commercial. My first gig had me as a meat patty running from humans for the Virginia Lottery.

3.  I was super into comic books as a kid. My crates of comics, binders of cards, and bins of action figures are stashed at my parents house, though I can’t take all the credit for my collection. Most of it was actually passed down to me from my older cousin.

4. I love traveling and finding the best local places to eat. If you go to a new city and settle for lunch at Panera because its quick and easy, we would not get along.

5. My favorite summer thus far was the one after my junior year of high school. I attended the theater program at the Governor’s School for Performing and Visual Arts at the University of Richmond. The summer before that I got an all-you can watch Blockbuster rental membership. One summer, 72 movies. Not too shabby.

6. I’ve never been stung by a bee and I intend to keep it that way.
